Suffolk’s newest small plates restaurant: Blue Fig in the heart of historic Bury St Edmunds.

Just when you think Suffolk’s foodiest town has peaked, a ruddy legend shows up and puts a cherry on top of the cupcake.

I’m talking, of course, about Bury St Edmunds, and the recent opening of Blue Fig, a venture between Chi restaurant group’s Lamen Reddy, and Regis Crepy - who those of you as long in the tooth as I am when it comes to the Suffolk food scene will recognise as the revered former owner of The Great House (Lavenham), Il Punto (now Mariner’s in Ipswich), and Maison Bleue.

The duo and their business partners have joined forces, found a star of a stove operator in head chef Wayne, and nabbed a bit of prime real estate - what was Neal’s Yard Remedies on Abbeygate Street.

Their premise is this: small plates, sexy vibes, Med flavours. Is it risky business opening around the corner from the much-lauded (also small plates) Lark, which has been showered with awards and nods from critics since opening just over a year ago?
